Todd Haynes is returning to the Cannes Film Festival with Wonderstruck. The film is based on Brian Selnick’s novel and stars Julianne Moore, Oakes Fegley, Michelle Williams, and Millie Simmonds.
Wonderstruck follows the intertwined narratives of two deaf children, Ben (Fegley) and Rose (Simmonds). In 1927 New Jersey, Rose keeps a scrapbook of her idol, Lillian Mayhew and runs off to New York to see her. Both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.
Carter Burwell who worked with Haynes on Carol returns to create music magic, and Ed Lachmann returns as cinematographer. Wonderstruck will bow at Cannes on May 18. The film is released on October 20.
