Margot Robbie Potentially Enters the Best Actress Race with I, Tonya

The Toronto International Film Fest just announced some new titles to show at the fest, including the Margot Robbie film about poor Tonya Harding and her bid for Olympic gold. Synopsis, “Tonya Harding dominated the ice with unrivaled athleticism. She dominated the headlines for something else entirely. “I, Tonya” is an at times absurd, tragic and hilarious look at the woman at the center of the biggest scandal in sports history.” 

It is the height of irony that Tonya will be played by one of the most beautiful women in the world. Had Tonya been that beautiful she would not have been so vilified by the press, probably. But I think Robbie can pull it off, despite her beauty. Of course it’s not yet known whether I, Tonya will be released this year or next but if it’s this year I would expect Robbie to be in consideration for a Best Actress nomination.

The other films to show include Papillon and Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken. Papillon is “Based on the international best-selling autobiography, PAPILLON follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with quirky convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape, ultimately resulting in a bond of lasting friendship.”

And finally, Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken is “Muckraking filmmaker Morgan Spurlock reignites his battle with the food industry — this time from behind the register — as he opens his own fast food restaurant.”

The Toronto International Film Festival runs September 7 through 17th.
