‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Wins Drama at 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards

Hulu’s first crack at major Emmy wins with The Handmaid’s Tale paid off big. The dramatic series won five awards tonight for a total of 8 Emmys including an unexpected Supporting Actress win for character actress Ann Dowd. HBO’s Big Little Lies also won five awards tonight (also 8 total) with three acting wins for Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, and Laura Dern. On the Comedy side, HBO’s Veep again took home the top prize. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s win tonight makes her the record holder for most Emmy wins for the same role.

But in more significant news, Donald Glover and Lena Waithe became the first black director and writer, respectively, to win in their Comedy races. Glover also won Comedy Actor.
