Tonya Harding. Say her name to anyone old enough to remember, and “disgraced figure skater” or “fallen from grace skater” will probably come to mind. In the new film from NEON, Tonya Harding’s story is revisited with Allison Janney as the mother who dragged her child to ice skating lessons, and Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding in what is one of the best performances of her career.
Harding was one of the few women, seven to be precise, to perform the triple axel in competition ever. It is one of the most technically difficult jumps to execute in skating, but Harding achieved this. Sadly, she’s not remembered for her skills, but for the headlines she made after fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked off the ice and her connection to the attack.
The new film takes us back to Harding’s childhood and goes behind the frenzy. Watch the trailer below in all its insanity, hilarity and brilliance
