The Queen of Hollywood ups the star power for the sophomore season of HBO’s Big Little Lies.
Gay fever dreams do come true!
It was just announced that Meryl Streep will be joining the cast of the Big Little Lies Season 2. This is not a drill people. We have a reunion of two of the leads from The Hours. Someone get Julianne Moore’s people on the phone.
Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s departed Perry. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Louise is comes to the shore of Monterey in search of answers regarding her son’s death, and she is concerned about the well-being of her twin grandchildren. Does this mean we are going to get a standoff between Streep and Nicole Kidman’s Celeste?
In case you were living under a rock, Big Little Lies became a huge phenomenon for HBO in early 2017. It was originally created as a limited series, but due to its popularity, a second season is on its way. The initial season of Lies garnered 8 Emmys, 4 Golden Globes, and 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The last time Streep was involved with an HBO production, it was the television adaptation of Angels in America, and she walked away with her second Emmy Award (her first was for Holocaust in 1978).
I have been a vocal opponent of the series continuing, but there is no way to stop the Big Little Lies train. Fingers crossed that it will remain a richly dramatic series, and it doesn’t turn into HBO’s version of Desperate Housewives.
