A Final Look at All Stars 3 and Our First RuPaul’s Drag Race Fantasy League

Ahead of the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 Jalal takes a final look at the season as well as ADTV’s first Drag Race Fantasy League

The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 finale is finally upon us and the fight for the crown is down to four legendary queens: Bebe Zahara Benet, Kennedy Davenport, Shangela, and Trixie Mattel. After an uneventful season that mostly followed last year’s script and saw Ben Dela Crème winning competitions with a historic sweep, the entire competition was turned on its head when Dela eliminated herself two weeks ago. Now it’s potentially anyone’s to win.

All season long I have been apologetically rooting for Shangela Laquifa Wadley. I wasn’t a fan of her during throughout her original run but over the years I’ve loved how she has hustled throughout Hollywood with guest spots in and out of drag on The X-Files, Bones, Glee, Community, and Dance Moms. The Nancy Drew of drag also has perfectly branded her drag career with her Halleloo catchphrase, her infamous sugar daddy monologue, her box gimmick, and the introduction of cornacia. If any queen has proven they are the perfect successor to mother Ru herself it’s clearly Shangela. She has by far the best track record with competition wins, memorable runways, and gagworthy lip-syncs. On top of all that I might be rooting for her the most because as soon as she moved to Hollywood she immediately was taken under the wing of none other than comedic legend Jenifer Lewis.

As much as I am team Shangela I can easily make an argument for why the other three queens are worthy of the crown. Trixie Mattel has an amazing career outside of drag race with a hit show on Viceland and an album currently at the top of the Itunes charts. She’s basically narrated the season and has stepped her pussy up the past couple weeks. Kennedy Davenport represents old school drag and the pageant circuit in the best way possible, is by far one of the best dancers in the history of the show, and time and time again has proven she is an unlikely comedic genius. Bebe is the OG winner and even though the game is completely different since she won she has been able to outshine competitors who are much more familiar with the format.

In the end, even if a lot of the challenges weren’t as exciting it was at least fun watching this crop of All Stars be introduced to the mainstream. All ten of them made the rounds on MTV and various talk shows. Standouts like Trixie and Shangela are making a career in and out of drag. Even queens like Milk who may not have had the best run in their time on All Stars is the star of the new Troye Sivan music video and looks absolutely stunning. Surprisingly my absolute favorite to watch was the ru-demption arc of Aja who proved she is definitely one of the most entertaining queens to compete for the crown.

Overall I hope the season finale gives us a surprise or two. So far the entire season has pretty much copied the legendary second season of All Stars from the format to the challenges and even to the placement of a RuPaul lip sync. Fingers crossed the producers have a trick up their sleeves for the finale tonight!

ADTV’s First Drag Race Fantasy League

Our first Drag Race fantasy league has remained insanely competitive throughout the entire season.  Even though Megan lost most of her roster early on Dela catapulted her to an early lead winning challenge after challenge until the sixth episode when the former Miss Congeniality eliminated herself to avoid eliminating one of her friends. Going into the finale Joey is the only one of us with their entire roster while I have two players left. Unfortunately both Jazz and Megan lost their entire team throughout the season.
