Remember on this week’s podcast where the Water Cooler Gang didn’t know if HBO’s The Tale would premiere during the 2018 Emmy season? Remember how we called out potential nominations for the TV movie, Laura Dern, and Ellen Burstyn but held off committing to them because there was no release date yet? Well, thanks, HBO, for making us look like even bigger fools than we already do!
HBO’s The Tale will premiere Saturday, May 26, at 10pm ET.
Originally premiering to rave reviews at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, The Tale follows Jennifer (Laura Dern) as she faces life-altering questions when a short story she wrote for school at age 13 forces her to re-examine her first sexual relationship — and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive. The film is based on award-winning writer-director Jennifer Fox’s own true story.
The Tale also stars Jason Ritter, Elizabeth Debicki, Common, Frances Conroy, and John Heard.
Expect Emmy nominations all around for this deeply personal film.
