MTV announced today that Chris Pratt will be honored with the Generation Award during the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards.. Hosted by Tiffany Haddish.
Named as one of TIME’s “100 Most Influential People” in 2017, Pratt achieved stardom as ‘Andy Dwyer’ on NBC’s Parks and Recreation and has since attained groundbreaking success in his transition to film. In 2015, he headlined Jurassic World, the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time, and will reprise his role as Owen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which arrives in theaters on June 22, 2018. Pratt also received notable acclaim for his role as ‘Star Lord’ in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The ‘Star Lord’ has recently returned to the role in Avengers: Infinity War. He also delivered remarkable performances alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers, in Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven and through supporting roles in the films Moneyball, The Lego Movie, Her and Zero Dark Thirty.
The Generation Award has been dedicated to showcasing outstanding talent and their noteworthy contributions to film and TV. For over 25 years, the remarkable body of work of recipients speaks directly to a generation of MTV viewers. Past recipients of the award include the “Fast & Furious” franchise, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
MTV Movie & TV Awards will air Monday, June 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.
nah, he’s going the Robin Williams way, Supporting Actor for a dramatic role, later in his career… unless someone thinks of him to do a Jamie Foxxx.
He’s not Tom Cruise, whose comedic timing barely shows up – Tropic Thunder. Talking about it, Thor: Ragnarok just make me think Hemsworth is another case like Pratt… and I couldn’t get enough of the Hemsworth-Pratt interaction in Infinity War… that was SO funny.
Well look at the other recipients. They’ve been around for a lot longer. It’s not a weird thing to think.
I was about to be a snarky ho and say something along the lines of “generation award for being on the radar for 10 minutes?” but then I remembered that bish has been around since Ever fokkin wood, was part of another iconic show Parks and Recreation and has high-end auteur fare on his resume (Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, Her) on top of headlining two mega franchises (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy). So I guess I have to reconsider being a dick today. Always a stunning revelation 🙂
No way is he a guaranteed future Oscar winner, he fills that super popular good looking blockbuster star and they typically don’t win Oscars.
That’s so weird to me because I feel like he just started. I think I kept seeing him in movies and just not registering that I liked him in them. And then I kept skipping the movies he was starring in. Then when I would watch them at home, I’d be like “oh that wasn’t even bad”. lol I don’t know why I had such low expectations for this guy. He’s really funny and seems like a good guy. I actually finally decided he was a decent actor in the remake of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN of all things. Go figure.
I don’t want to go see the JURASSIC movie. He looks pretty in the trailer tho.
Chris is a likely future Oscar winner… has star power, he’s well regarded all around (unlikely more discussed personal subjects about Travolta or Cruise) and probably the first moment he lands a dramatic/biopic role, with doing it convincingly he’ll have the Oscar nom or even win… but I am guessing he’s getting a Supporting Actor one. Same I could say for his ex-wife, Anna Faris, who had an excellent eye to get some roles in key films (Lost in Traslation, Brokeback Mountain) and steal her scenes effortlessly.
But looking at the list of previous recipients of this “Generation” award, it looks almost the kiss of death Oscar-wise (only Bullock, Foxx and Witherspoon went on to win Oscars, with everyone else listed – except Stiller and Myers – being Oscars contenders at some time – including Sandler, who deserved the nom for “Punch Drunk Love”).
