Jordan Peele certainly didn’t rest on his laurels after winning Best Original Screenplay for “Get Out” — he’s back in the Oscar race this year as a producer on “BlacKkKlansman” and he’s set to host and narrate the “Twilight Zone” revival next year. And now he has given us a thoroughly unsettling Christmas present by debuting the first trailer for his “new nightmare,” “Us.”
Written and directed by Peele and starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke (both fresh from Wakanda), “Us” centers on the Wilson family, who are on summer vacation in Northern California. Their idyllic excursion turns nightmarish, however, when a group of shadowy figures invade their beachside home — and the figures turn out to be doppelgängers of each member of the family. True to form, the doppelgängers aren’t the friendliest of chaps…
Rabbit and scissors imagery prominently feature throughout the trailer, while a deliciously ominous rendition of Luniz’s 90’s R&B anthem “I Got 5 On It” provides a creepy aural backdrop.
“Us” hits theaters on March 15, 2019.
