This week, we’re digging into the television nominations for the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards. We’re welcoming special guests to the podcast to do it. On the drama front, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association only recognized one returning series, surprisingly ignoring Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. As predicted, Bodyguard, Homecoming, Killing Eve, and Pose all made big splashes with series and acting nominations.
On the Comedy front, the Globes continued their admiration for Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and finally recognized NBC’s The Good Place in its third season. In a bit of a surprise, they nominated Kidding and The Kominsky Method for Comedy series when both were thought to be just acting plays.
Finally, on the Limited Series side, Gianni Versace continued its march through awards season, with only the upcoming Screen Actors Guild awards remaining. Versace received four nominations to lead the Limited Series categories. What else received nominations? Is this race really over already?
But first we take a very quick look at the film nominations. What films jumped out in front of the Oscar race with Golden Globe recognition?
We close our podcast, as always, with the Flash Forward to the media we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.
