The Oscar Squad came together to predict how we think it might go as we head into Critics Choice weekend. They are in the sweet spot after the Golden Globes but before Oscar ballots are going to be turned in. By the end of this month, January, we’ll be pretty sure about what movie the awards community has decided is best. It really feels like it’s down to just a small handful. Maybe one or two, at the most three.
It’s looking more and more like it’s down to Roma vs. A Star is Born vs. BlacKkKlansman vs. Green Book. If the awards community decides to ignore the mass hysteria online they might choose Green Book, you never know. But it just depends on how much collective shit they’ll endure for it and whether they’re up for that. BlacKkKlansman or Roma would be probably hysteria-free choices and both great films worthy of a win. Any film directed by a woman would be okay – oh wait, there aren’t any. Black Panther would be such a satisfying end to the season Film Twitter would probably feel okay about having Trump as president.
It’s been a hell of a season.
But either which way, here you go – for what it’s worth – our picks for now.
