The Gurus of Gold have now placed Roma in the lead to win Best Picture. Only one outlier (me) has BlacKkKlansman winning instead. A few have A Star is Born, and one has Green Book still but it’s a very weird, very subdued Oscar year. Roma is going to be winning Foreign Language and thus far, no film has won Best Foreign Language AND Best Picture. Roma’s publicity is high octane – billboards up and down Sunset Blvd., a party with high profile Hollywood folks pushing it – like Angelina Jolie. It is being pushed as a major Oscar contender to win and just as a Best Picture NOMINEE that’s a big get for Netflix. And if it wins, well, history made. I think it will come down to the actors. Whatever wins Best Picture has to be a big deal with actors. Either the director is one (Bradley Cooper) or they like the actors in the movie (BlacKkKlansman, Green Book). Best Picture depends almost entirely upon the acting branch.
