PBS presents the first trailer for their 6 part mini series.
Look down! Look down! Prepare for Misérables (it fits with the rhythm, so you’re welcome)! PBS will present a new adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel starring Dominic West, David Oyelowo, Lily Collins this April just in time for Emmy consideration.
Like the 1998 big screen adaptation (starring Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman), this is not a small screen version of the beloved musical. No close-ups with quivering snot for PBS! West plays Jean Valjean, an inmate on the run for stealing a loaf of bread 19 years ago while Oyelowo portrays Javert, the inspector hellbent on bringing Valjean to justice. Collins plays the doomed Fantine (that hair is looking mighty fetching…) and Oscar nominee Olivia Colman will be tearing it up as Madame Thenardier.
This new version of Les Mis looks handsome and ambitious (so many bonnets!), so it surely will factor into the Emmy conversation. PBS’ Little Women was inexplicably absent from the major races last year, so maybe they will make up for it with this lavish production.
Les Misérables will debut on PBS on April 14.
