Netflix Resurrects Cast of ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ for an FYC Event and Trailers Debut

Aguirre-Sacasa was joined by Sabrina Spellman herself Kiernan Shipka as well as the rest of the Spellman clan played by Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, and Chance Perdomo. The Q&A was rounded out by Michelle Gomez who plays Madame Satan and Jaz Sinclair who plays Roz, Sabrina’s mortal best friend.

Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a modern adaptation of the Archie comic book series following Sabrina Spellman, a half-witch half-mortal, who must try to navigate her life between both worlds. The supernatural adventure begins as Sabrina is tasked with the impossible decision of which world to commit her life and soul setting off a search for answers about who she is and what really happened to her parents set in a world of witches, warlocks, goblins, and the devil. 

During the Q&A Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that adapting Sabrina had been a secret passion project of his for many years inspired by his love for the original comics and his obsession with classic horror. “I grew up reading the original Archie comics and Sabrina was obviously my favorite character. I also grew up loving horror and those two loves came together into this secret project I had been cultivating for years. I thought that maybe if I wrote it as a graphic novel first people could see that it could work. The graphic novels served as an homage to the movies that I loved like The Exorcist, The Omen, Rosemary’s Baby, and The Shining. I took this idea that rather than be a light, comedic character Sabrina is born into a much darker mythology.”

In fact, it was Aguirre-Sacasa’s immensely detailed vision that convinced the cast to sign on to the Netflix drama. The cast was familiar with the pop culture phenomenon that was the original 90s sitcom but Miranda Otto loved the unique vision of the new show, particularly the gothic look built into its design. 

Miranda Otto was convinced to join the project after she had met with Roberto and seen the immense detail he had put into everything, particularly the gothic look that set it apart from the sitcom original.

The Q&A ended with the cast dropping hints at what we can expect from the upcoming second part of the first season as well as a sneak peak at the new trailer for the season. We can plan on seeing some surprising sides to the characters we fell in love with in the first season. Kiernan  Shipka teased a darker and edgier Sabrina. We’ll see a new side to Hilda while Zelda focuses in on a quest for power. Chance Perdomo revealed that we’ll finally get a better idea on Ambrose’s backstory before he was banished to a life of house arrest. The most shocking hint came from Aguirre-Sacasa when he revealed that the second half will be a little sexier, a little scarier, and there will even be an amazing musical number in the finale. 

Overall Aguirre-Sacasa promised an even scarier and action-packed backend to the first season. “Part One was all about the world building of the mortal and witch realms and understanding the differences between them. Now in Part Two, we get to have a little bit more fun and the storytelling is a little bit more spread out and even.”

The first full-length trailer doubles down on the promise of a sexier and scarier Part Two and even opens with the promise that Sabrina is back to burn everything down, literally and figuratively. Set to The Runaways’ “Cherry Bomb” we immediately see Serena fully embracing her talents in the dark arts practicing levitation, committing murder, battling demons, throwing a near-orgy teenage party, and possibly even meeting with Satan himself. As demonic as the second season is gearing up to be her biggest challenge will still be the brewing love triangle between mortal ex-boyfriend Harvey Kinkle and mysterious warlock Nicholas Scratch.

Part Two of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be drop Friday, April 5th exclusively on Netflix.
