Jimmy Fallon on Bob Dylan, Lorne Michaels as the East Coast late night host comes to LA for an FYC evening.
Emmys season is in full swing. And LA was treated to a very special guest when late-night host Jimmy Fallon joined Guy Raz for a special conversation.
Fans of the show will already know the hilarity Fallon brings and Emmys voters got a taste of it when Fallon spent the hour recalling an LA memory that involved a trip to Pink Dot to get five cases of beer with Kobe Bryant.
Other highlights included Fallon talking about a Sting concert he attended with Lorne Michaels. Shocked by Sting’s physique he stated, “I don’t know if I want to be in that good of shape in my 60s.” To which Lorne replied, “I don’t think you have to worry about that.”
Fallon also talked about working with an icon, Bob Dylan. It just so happened that the famous Big Apple Circus was in town and Fallon said he took Bob Dylan to the circus for a bit. Talking about Dylan’s appearance on the show – and the stunt that was all shot in one take. Fallon said “He nailed it, and by nailed it he just kind of sat there with no expression.”
The talk show host got teary-eyed and emotional as he talked about taking the show to Puerto Rico. He brought his show there after being inspired by Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda and wanted to raise relief money following the devastating 2017 hurricane. He stated it was “one of [his] proudest moments of any show.” Fallon had the audience in hysterics as he shared a terrifying zip-line experience where he was “scissored to safety” by a zip-line staffer.
The Late Night host went on to talk about one of his first times doing improv where he ended up following Seinfeld. At the time, Fallon had impersonations in his comedy routine and Seinfeld was one. So, he did what he did and took out his troll doll which was part of his routine and carried on with his Seinfeld impression. He noted, “I had to follow Jerry Seinfeld at my first night at the Improv….it was one of the best sets of my life.”
During his SNL audition: Jimmy was able to get Lorne Michaels, notorious for his straight face, to crack a small with his Adam Sandler impression.
Guy asks Jimmy how he handles an unkind world to which he replies that you stick to kindness, and The Tonight Show wants “everyone to be in on the joke.” Jimmy says at the end of the day he wants The Tonight Show to be “Comforting and entertaining, I want you to feel like you know each other.”
