“I am very grateful and exited to be nominated by the Academy for the Cinematography of The Irishman. I am honored to be part of this amazing group of fellow nominees. –Robert De Niro, Producer and star of Best Picture nominee, The Irishman

–Jane Rosenthal, Producer of Best Picture nominee The Irishman

–Sandy Powell and Christopher Peterson, Best Costume Design nominees for The Irishman
Taika Waititi, Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, on needing satire more than ever:
“I do think we need it. I believe this is the most mature film that I’ve directed–I’m really proud of it. All of my films have a message to them, and we tried really hard to tell this story from the perspective of Roman [Griffith Davis] and have that told in a PG-rated film. I saw Gallipoli at a young age, and Peter Weir really influenced me. We have the power to change the world.”
On bringing the history to younger people and his younger actors:
“It felt really special. They already had on an education on World War II, but there is a huge percentage of American millennials who don’t know what Auschwitz–or some of the most brutal, notorious camps–is. Some young kids have no context. Roman made a huge effort to learn as much as he could, and Thomasin [McKenzie] was incredible. She went to some of the camps and immersed herself.”
“I would like to thank The Academy for my nomination for Best Actor for my work in Pain and Glory. It is an honor to share the nomination with my fellow actors, they did an amazing job. The bar is very high and I’m very thankful to be in the run for the Oscars. I would like to congratulate Pedro Almodovar and the Pain and Glory team for the International Feature Film nomination for the amazing work they did. I would also like to thank Sony Pictures Classic for their support and effort to get here.”
–Antonio Banderas, Best Actor nominee for Pain and Glory
“Making BOMBSHELL is one of the great highlights of my career. I wish that the story in this film never needed to be told, but I am so proud of the entire team on this film for telling it with such grace, sensitivity, and humanity. Thank you to my fellow producers, our incredible director Jay Roach and our brilliant screenwriter Charles Randolph, and a multi-talented group of actors and artists who gave 100% of themselves and their craft in making this film. I feel really lucky and blessed to do what I do and work with the people I get to work with, and I am ever thankful to the Academy.”
–Charlize Theron, Best Actress nominee for Bombshell
“I’m honored and incredibly grateful to represent the people who made Marriage Story, and to be included among a list of actors I greatly admire! Thank you very much to Noah and to the cast and crew and, of course, to the Academy for this opportunity.”
“I didn’t expect to be quite as emotional as I was when I heard the news. To be acknowledged by your peers is just the best thing. I am so grateful to them. I am thrilled too for my fellow Pope Anthony Hopkins. We had such a good time together. We both thrived on Anthony McCarten’s superb script and the inspirational direction of Fernando Meirelles. Huge thanks for the support of Netflix, Tracey Seaward and everyone who worked on the production of this very special film.”
–Jonathan Pryce, Best Actor nominee for The Two Popes
“What a big surprise for an old dude like me to be nominated by my peers. I want to give my thanks to Fernando, Jonathan, Anthony and all of my collaborators on the film and to Ted and Scott and the entire team at Netflix for their tireless support of the movie.”
— Anthony Hopkins, Best Supporting Actor nominee for The Two Popes
“To receive two Oscar nominations for a film paying tribute to Harriet Tubman, a person whose heart and spirit are the embodiment of courage, makes this morning’s news beyond anything I could have ever imagined. This is more than a dream come true. When I got the opportunity to play this incredible woman, I felt truly honored that Kasi and our producers saw fit to have me play the part; being asked to co-write and perform the song in the film was the icing on an already wonderful cake. I continue to feel overwhelmed with gratitude today to the Academy for recognizing my performance and our song ‘Stand Up’.
–Cynthia Erivo, Best Actress nominee and Best Original Song nominee for Harriet
“I’m just so thrilled that our Little Women has been recognized by the Academy. Greta made something so special that I’m just thankful to have been a part of, let alone nominated for. Thank you to my academy peers for loving and appreciating this film that is so close to my heart.”
–Saoirse Ronan, Best Actress nominee for Little Women
“I am very happy with these nominations. I’ve learnt about them while flying back to Madrid. This is the happiest end to the film’s career. Antonio has been a part of my films and my life for over thirty years. It makes me very proud that he’s received his first nomination for this film.”
–Pedro Almodovar, Director of Best International Feature Film nominee, Pain and Glory
“I feel honored and humbled to have been nominated by my fellow actors. The Academy’s encouragement helped ignite and sustain my career and I am incredibly grateful for that support. I’d like to also congratulate my fellow nominees for being recognized for their inspiring performances that have enriched our art form.”
–Joaquin Phoenix, Best Actor nominee for Joker
“Thank you to the Academy for this wonderful recognition. I am very proud of this film and it was truly an honor to work with the legendary Clint Eastwood on bringing the truth of Richard Jewell to light, along with the incredible Paul, Sam, Olivia, Jon, Nina, Ian and Niko. My hope is that this film brings the justice and peace Richard and Bobi Jewell deserve by shining a light on their story and his heroism.”
–Kathy Bates, Best Supporting Actress nominee for Richard Jewell
That is a helluva list of writers, very honored & proud to be up there with them. Love & so much gratitude to my fellow writers in @TheAcademy. Mostly though this sums up my reaction: pic.twitter.com/0BGwiwwIjG

–Rian Johnson, Best Original Screenplay nominee for Knives Out
“I am brimming with happiness — thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you (that’s six!) to the Academy. This film of Little Women has been over thirty years in the making, from the very first time Louisa May Alcott and Jo March reached across time and space and made me believe I could be a writer and creator. Every single person who worked on this film poured their heart and soul into it, and we are all so grateful to the Academy for recognizing the collective effort. I am so personally proud of each person who worked on the film, and I am bursting with joy for all of them. I have to say a few names loudly, because I am just so deeply thrilled for them — my filmmaking partner/wizard/genius Saoirse Ronan, you are my inspiration and my honesty and my co-captain, always, my baby girl superstar Florence Pugh, the Marmee of our dreams Laura Dern (woot! Marriage Story!), our gorgeously talented and ridiculously intelligent Emma Watson, the bright shining soul and life force Eliza Scanlen, our Queen Meryl, the quiet strength and world-class craft of Jayne Houdyshell, and the fifth March sister and all around prince Timothee Chalamet. The men who, as Louisa says, possess “chivalry worth having,” Chris Cooper, Tracy Letts, James Norton, Bob Odenkirk, and Louis Garrel. The costumes of Jacqueline Durran, the sets of Jess Gonchor, and the music of Alexandre Desplat — they gave me such incredible gifts and each frame of the movie is filled with their skill and work and care. Amy Pascal, I have no words big enough but you know what is in my heart. Everyone at Sony and Columbia Pictures especially to Tom Rothman, my favorite sparring partner and tireless champion. Writing and directing this film was an honor and sharing it with audiences has been the most sincerely heart-warming journey. I hope our Little Women does for another generation of girls and women what it did for me: lights a fire to write your book, make your movie, sing your verse. From all of us Little Women and Men, thank you to the Academy.”
–Greta Gerwig, Best Adapted Screenplay nominee for Little Women
“Joker began as an idea, an experiment really— could we take an “indie approach” to a studio film by inverting it into a character study to reflect the world around us? Explore what we’re seeing and feeling in society, from the lack of empathy to the effects of the absence of love. I am deeply honored by the overwhelming recognition of the Academy this morning, and I want to thank the genius that is Joaquin Phoenix, and all my incredible collaborators. We are beyond humbled that our peers in the filmmaking community have embraced the film and its message.”
–Todd Phillips, Best Director nominee for Joker
“I’m really very happy for both nominations. Marriage Story is a great picture, as is Toy Story. It was a real pleasure to work with Noah Baumbach, and I hope to work with him again. The same goes for Josh Cooley of Toy Story.”
–Randy Newman, Best Original Score nominee for Marriage Story and Best Original Song nominee for ‘I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away’ from Toy Story 4
“I’m honored and humbled and thrilled by the Academy’s recognition this morning for Marriage Story. I’m so happy and proud of my brilliant collaborators, Scarlett, Adam, Laura and Randy. I’m so grateful to Netflix for their partnership and support. This film is very personal to us all and to be recognized by our peers is a great reason for celebration.”
— Noah Baumbach, Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture Producer nominee for Marriage Story
“I am genuinely blown away by this nomination for ‘I’m Standing With You’ from Breakthrough. I feel that the message of the song is so timely, and Chrissy Metz’s performance of it is so powerful and moving. I am extremely grateful to the Academy for this recognition.”
–Diane Warren, Best Original Song nominee for ‘I’m Standing With You’ from Breakthrough
“Working with Noah Baumbach and Taika Waititi, respectively, has given me such deep artistic satisfaction; ‘Marriage Story’ and ‘Jojo Rabbit’ are two great highlights of my career. I am deeply humbled by the Academy’s recognition of my work which would not have been possible without the support of the incredibly gifted actors and writer/directors that I’ve been so fortunate to collaborate with.”
— Scarlett Johansson, Best Actress nominee for Marriage Story; Also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for Jojo Rabbit
“I want to thank the Academy for the co-writing nomination of “Stand Up.” It’s one of the most honest pieces of music that I’ve ever written, so it feels special to me that it has received this honor. I’m also grateful to share this honor with co-writer Cynthia Erivo, the song’s brilliant producers Will and Gabe, and every musician and professional whose tremendous talent brought this song to life. Also, I thank God and celebrate with my family, friends, and everyone associated with the film who took such a big chance on me and who believed in me. I feel deeply blessed and grateful for this nomination. I’m humbled by where this song has taken me thus far.”
–Joshuah Brian Campbell, Best Original Song nominee for ‘Stand Up’ from Harriet
“Annoyingly for a writer words cannot do justice to the honour I feel that 1917 has been nominated for best original screenplay by The Academy. To be recognised alongside the other fantastic nominees and their amazing scripts is such a privilege. Thank you.”
–Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Best Original Screenplay co-nominee for 1917
“In one of the languages of our film: Sanctus stercore! (Latin for holy shit!) Gratitude to the Academy generally, our writer’s branch specifically, and to Netflix and Fernando and our entire team. Delighted especially for the richly deserved recognition for Jonathan and Sir Anthony. Their performances will endure.”
–Anthony McCarten, Best Adapted Screenplay nominee for The Two Popes
“We are profoundly overwhelmed and honored to have received all these nominations from the Academy, and to have made history by being only the third movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture that’s written, directed and produced exclusively by women. This film is a testament to the brilliance of Greta Gerwig. She is the most brilliant creative talent working in our industry today, and we are thrilled that she and our beautiful film have been recognized.”
–Amy Pascal, Producer of Best Picture nominee, Little Women
“I’m honored and grateful to the Academy for acknowledging The Irishman and Joker. I share these nominations with the most talented cast and crew in the world. I also want to congratulate my fellow nominees on both films. Their work inspires me every day. I’ve worked with Martin Scorsese for 17 years. There is no better job in the world. You love your actors, your crew, and storytelling with a tenacity and passion that is rare and I’m eternally grateful to be a part of it. The Irishman is a film that Marty, Bob, Al, Joe, and my fellow producer Jane Rosenthal were determined to get made through seemingly insurmountable challenges over the past decade. It is really special to see it recognized across so many categories. Thank you to Todd Phillips for inviting me on the journey of Joker. You stayed true to your vision and made the film you believed in. We are all lucky that you did. Your leadership on and off set is why we are here today, and I’d take the ride with you again in a heartbeat. Thank you to Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber and everyone at Netflix for your unbelievable work ethic, support, and passion. Thank you to Toby Emmerich, Blair Rich, Walter Hamada and everyone at Warner Bros. for believing in this film and your brilliant campaign.”
–Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Producer of Best Picture nominees The Irishman and Joker

–Brian Oliver, Producer of Best Picture nominee 1917 and of Best Original Song nominee “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again from Rocketman

“I was taken by surprise this morning and I am deeply moved to be one small part of a brilliant film that brings me great joy.”
–Robert Richardson, Best Cinematography nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“To be a member of Quentin’s orchestra of artisan filmmakers is the joyous pinnacle of our cinema careers. We are invited to bring our best game, everyday. We’re blessed to be doing what we love at our maximum potential. Storytelling with sound is our passion and sometimes fairytales do come true. Once upon a time…”
— Mark Ulano (Production Sound Mixer), Best Sound Mixing nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“Forty years ago, I received my first Oscar nomination. In 1983, I was nominated alongside my uncles, Bob and Lee, for our work in TRON. Today, I’m thrilled and overwhelmed to be nominated with my son Christian. Simply put, working with Quentin is fun.”
— Michael Minkler (Re-recording Mixer), Best Sound Mixing nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“It’s most definitely an honor to be recognized along with all the other talented nominees, whom I have the utmost respect and admiration for. This is obviously my first nomination, and I am beyond ecstatic that I am able to share it with my father. This must be one of the few, if not the only time in The Academy’s history, that a father and son have been recognized together in the same category for their craft.”
— Christian P. Minkler (Re-Recording Mixer), Best Sound Mixing nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“I haven’t felt this high since 1969!”
— Wylie Stateman (Supervising Sound Editor), Best Sound Editing nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“Trusting someone to tell your story is no small thing. We were trusted by great people who work at a factory in our strong and scrappy hometown, Dayton, Ohio, and by Fuyao’s maverick Chairman, Cao DeWang, to tell the story of AMERICAN FACTORY 美国工厂. We are profoundly grateful that this movie has resonated with the Academy. We, and our small but mighty team, are over the moon at today’s news. We’re deeply grateful to the amazing people at Participant Media, Higher Ground Productions and Netflix for elevating the stories of working class people. The fate of working people around the globe is under great pressure and duress, and we hope AMERICAN FACTORY can give voice to their journey.”
–Steven Bognar and Julie Reichert, Best Documentary Feature nominees for American Factory
“After 15 years of filming in Afghanistan I am humbled by the indelible spirit of the young women at the heart of this film. Their determination in the face of great odds to get an education gives hope for a better future. They are truly inspiring and I’m grateful that this recognition may in some way shine light on their story. My thanks to the Academy.”
–Carol Dysinger, Best Documentary Short nominee for Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl)
“We are thrilled that Life Overtakes Me has been recognized by the Academy. This honor will bring further attention to children whose lives are scarred by trauma. We believe that Resignation Syndrome is just one manifestation of the impact of fear and anxiety on refugees, including children held in detention on our own borders.”
–Kristine Samuelson and John Haptas, Best Documentary Short Subject nominees for Life Overtakes Me
“What a dream come true for myself and the whole crew! Who would have thought that an adult animated film, a bit weird and melancholic, about a severed hand and titled ‘I Lost My Body’ could one day be Oscar nominated? It’s proof that a film made with limited funds and not playing by the usual rules can still achieve the highest artistic recognition. What an honor! Thank you to Guillaume Laurant who wrote the book this film is based on. Thank you to my producer Marc du Pontavice who never ceased to believe in me. Thank you to my voice cast, my composer Dan Levy and the whole crew at Xilam Studio.”
–-Jeremy Clapin, Director and Writer of Best Animated Feature nominee, I Lost My Body
“I feel extremely proud and grateful for this nomination. Proud because this is celebrating an immense effort to cross the boundaries that are usually assigned to animation, to claim the right to draw adult stories that are complex and demanding. And grateful to the academy for demonstrating its love for diversity. It’s never been so urgent that the heart of the world entertainment industry encourages different voices, different art of storytelling. My admiration and thanks goes to the brilliant vision of film director Jeremy Clapin and to the talent and devotion of the artists at Xilam Animation Studio.”
–Marc Du Pontavice, Producer of Best Animated Feature nominee, I Lost My Body
“We are extremely honored to be nominated for an Oscar. Many thanks to the members of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Science. Klaus would not be here without our relentless crew of 260-plus talented artists and technicians representing 22 countries, and of course without ATRESMedia and Netflix, who believed in our vision to take traditional animation forward. We hope others will continue to innovate and diversify the animation medium.”
–Sergio Pablos, Director and Writer of Best Animated Feature nominee, Klaus
“I would like to say MERCI to the Academy. I always dreamt to say this sentence one day! Thank you to all of you who voted for international movies and for France and for us. We are all MISERABLES in the sense that we are all immigrants. But we can all do the revolution, me I am doing it with my camera. I believe in the power of cinema as a tool to challenge the politics and even sometimes to inspire revolution and above all bring real lasting changes. Walt Disney had a saying: ‘All our dreams can come true . . . if we have the courage to pursue them.’ We had a dream and now it’s time to make it true. THE MISERABLES need you, the world needs you to continue to have dreams … that’s also what we call the magic of cinema! Be ready THE MISERABLES are coming to Hollywood.”
–Ladj Ly, Director and co-writer of Best International Feature Film nominee, Les Miserables
–Barack Obama, co-founder of Higher Ground Productions, on American Factory‘s Best Documentary Feature nomination
“I’m truly honored and proud to be recognized with an Academy Award nomination for my work on JOKER. Being invited into this illustrious group of talent and getting to take part in telling this story means the world to me. Todd Phillips is a master of his craft and it was wonderful to experience how he trusts and empowers his collaborators so they can deliver their best work possible. We see that in the way every element of the film has its space to shine, because he gives each element real weight. The brightest shining of those of course being Joaquin Phoenix´s performance, which was simply otherworldly. I’m grateful for having been invited on this journey of a lifetime with them and I congratulate all of my fellow nominees on their nominations.”
–Hildur Guðnadótti, Best Original Score nominee for Joker
“It’s wonderful – I’m honoured and thrilled to be nominated for Little Women. Working on the film with such talented actors was a pleasure but above all it was Greta Gerwig’s vision and strong sense of Alcott’s world that inspired us all across the board. Thank you to the Academy voters for recognizing our work.”
–Jacqueline Durran, Best Costume Design nominee for Little Women
“I was riding my Vespa in Paris when I heard the news! Writing music for such an iconic novel was a challenge but the beauty, the taste, the energy and the modernity Greta Gerwig brought as a director is that of a very special talent. We had a beautiful and special artistic collaboration. I also want to thank Amy Pascal, Suzana Peric and Solrey for their many talents in the making of the music. I am very grateful to the Academy for this nomination, I am proud to be a part of this film and to see it recognized this morning.”
–Alexandre Desplat, Best Original Score nominee for Little Women
“Thrilling to be acknowledged by my peers and especially sweet to be nominated alongside my Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood family. Quentin challenged me to get a nomination when we were prepping the film, so thrilled to be able to deliver!”
–Arianne Phillips, Best Costume Design nominee for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
“Thank you very much to the Academy for this incredible honor. This Rocketman journey has been one of the highlights of my life and I’m grateful to be sharing this honor with my longtime friend and collaborator, Elton. We have personally and professionally supported each other for decades, and my goal in writing these lyrics was to honor his legacy, strength, and perseverance as both an icon and compassionate friend. To think that what started as a chance encounter over 5 decades ago in a London diner would take us both on the journey of a lifetime is beyond even my imagination. I’m humbled and deeply grateful for this prestigious recognition of our work together.”
–Bernie Taupin, Best Original Song nominee for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman
“We are absolutely thrilled and delighted that our colleagues have recognized the urgency of this film, and are humbled to be in the company of such important storytelling. In a time where fascism is spreading like an epidemic, we hope this film can help us all understand how crucial it is to protect our democracies. We are at a time where the personal has become utterly political for so many around the world and I believe it is through stories, language and documentaries that civilizations begin to heal.”
–Director Petra Costa and Producer Joanna Natasegara, Best Documentary Feature nominees for The Edge of Democracy
“I’ve always thought of myself as a documentary filmmaker so I was nervous to leap off of the cliff and try writing and directing fiction. But I had an amazing team of collaborators – a brilliant cast and crew — and it’s a huge thrill to have the film receive this attention.”
–Marshall Curry, Best Live Action Short nominee for The Neighbors’ Window
“I’m thrilled over this nomination and honored to be included among these outstanding films. More importantly, I’m proud to represent my fantastic team and our truly gifted director, James Mangold. Thank you to the Academy.”
–Donald Sylvester, Best Sound Editing nominee for Ford v Ferrari
“It’s a wonderful honor to be nominated along with so many other great-sounding films. My heartfelt thanks to Jim Mangold and our amazing sound team!”
–Paul Massey, Best Sound Mixing nominee for Ford v Ferrari
“I am overwhelmed to be honored for a second Academy Award nomination. There are so many people that contributed to this – I surely would not be at this moment without them but it is Jim Mangold’s clear leadership and passionate direction, in every facet of the filmmaking process, that guided this project and afforded me this recognition. We’ve been collaborators on 6 films over the last 15 years, I hope there are many more to come.”
–MICHAEL MCCUSKER, FORD V FERRARI Nominee Best Film Editing
“I’m humbled by our six nominations this morning. Thank you to the Academy for embracing JOJO RABBIT and its message. My congratulations and thanks go to the entire cast and crew.”
–TAIKA WAITITI, JOJO RABBIT Double Nominee for Best Picture & Best Adapted Screenplay
“I am beyond thrilled that WALK RUN CHA-CHA has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Yesterday we celebrated the day Paul arrived in America as a refugee from Vietnam, exactly 40 years ago, and today we’re celebrating an Oscar nomination. I am deeply grateful to Paul and Millie Cao for giving me access to their community over six years of filming. At their dance studio, we see Eastern Europeans teaching Latin dance to people from the Chinese community in suburban Los Angeles, reminding us of the beauty of America’s rich cultural diversity in a moment challenged by anti-immigration policies and sentiment.
“I am so grateful to the Academy for recognizing this film, and deeply honored to be in the company of such incredible filmmakers. We share this honor with The New York Times Op-Docs and Concordia Studio without whose support we couldn’t have made this film.”
–Laura Nix, Best Documentary Short Subject nominee for Walk Run Cha Cha
“SISTER is a very special and personal film for me. When I started to make this film, I simply wanted to make a film to reflect on my childhood and tell the story of our generation that nobody has ever told before, never really thinking about how the film would eventually be received. It has been a fantastic journey to create SISTER and to see her being embraced by audiences around the world. And today I’m extremely grateful to see SISTER being nominated for an Oscar among this group of amazing films! I want to share the joy with my CalArts mentors and student volunteers who helped on the production, I could not have created this film without their guidance and support. And thank you to the Academy for this nomination, it means the world to us! When I left China six years ago to pursue my dream as a filmmaker, my parents told me: “ Go explore the world.” They probably didn’t see this coming.”
–Siqi Song, Best Animated Short nominee for Sister
“It was an incredible, surreal experience to work with Scorsese and the actors, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci, on this movie. We are so grateful for the trust and support we got from the producers and from Netflix, and the talent and dedication of our team. We’re honored to be recognized by our colleagues with this nomination.”
–Pablo Helman, Best Visual Effects nominee for The Irishman
“Such an amazing celebration of some truly wonderful films, to be included in this stunning lineup of Production Designers and Set Decorators is a huge surprise and honour. Taika and the Jojo Rabbit team are the very best of people to work and be celebrating with.”
–Ra Vincent, Best Production Design nominee for Jojo Rabbit
“I’m so happy that people are responding to the film. For Taika it’s been an epic journey to get his message on screen and I’m just grateful to have been a part of that. For a boy from New Zealand, to be nominated in the company of the likes of Thelma Schoonmaker is a dream come true.”
–Tom Eagles, Best Film Editing nominee for Jojo Rabbit
“When I first read the script for Jojo Rabbit, I knew immediately that I had to be part of it. Not only for the great opportunity to repeat my collaboration with Taika Waititi, but also because of that most important message it would bring to the audience, which is not to HATE, in every sense, and in all directions of our lives. Jojo Rabbit offered an incredible canvas to portray the reality of war and hate, but also love and compassion, and innocence, with a good portion of poetry. I am so grateful to the Academy for choosing Jojo Rabbit to be nominated in 6 categories including Costume Design, and I am so deeply honored.”
–Mayes C. Rubeo, Best Costume Design nominee for Jojo Rabbit
“So exciting to get 6 nominations! Thanks to the Academy for embracing the comedy, heart and message in JOJO RABBIT. This story is so relevant today, and our hope is it inspires conversations about the world we want to live in. These nominations are an acknowledgement of Taika’s bold and unique vision, script and direction; and such an incredibly talented cast and crew who got behind the message and put everything they had into it.”
–Carthew Neal, Producer of Best Picture nominee, Jojo Rabbit
“Thank you to the Academy for their recognition of our film FORD v FERRARI. Jenno, Peter and I are thrilled to be nominated among such moving and unique films —and also grateful to our brilliant team of artists who brought our remarkable characters, and their adventures on and off the track, to life.”
–James Mangold, Director of Best Picture nominee, Ford v. Ferrari
“Thanks to Jim Mangold for making this fantastic movie and to our outstanding sound team. It’s such an honor to be recognized by our peers.”
–David Giammarco, Best Sound Mixing nominee for Ford v Ferrari
–Feras Fayyad, Best Documentary Feature nominee for The Cave
“This is incredible! We all loved Joker as we put it together but we would never have imagined the reception it has received from audiences everywhere and now the Academy. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done and to be a part of this amazing team. Thank you, Todd for entrusting us with this gem! Thanks again to everyone on our fantastic crew with a special thanks to Jason Ruder, Kira Roessler and Unsun Song. And to Kim Waugh and everyone at Warner Bros. Thank you!”
–Tom Ozanich, Best Sound Mixing nominee for Joker
“The track for Joker is like Arthur’s psychosis. It’s, complex, bold, and disturbing when it needs to be. I’m honored and elated with gratitude to the Sound branch of the Academy for recognizing our work as one of the five best sound movies this past year. Congratulations to my partners and crew and congratulations to all the nominees for their incredible work.”
–Dean Zupancic, Best Sound Mixing nominee for Joker
“I’m so proud for the Joker team, the dream has become a reality! Kudos to Todd Phillips for bringing it home!”
–Alan Murray, Best Sound Editing nominee for Joker
I often think there’s some money under the table with these studios. You can’t tell me that Netflix didn’t pay somebody something to get all 3 of their movies on the awards menu.
She’s so rich, she probably doesn’t care. She certainly is richer than all the actresses combined. But she already won an award, I think it was the NY Critics award?
The makers of The Irishman should be grateful . Ah yes Scorsese giving us another gangster movie especially one as boring and bloated as this one . Pacino and his cringe worthy yelling . The wonderful screenplay about things that never happened and regret unearned and all the classic quotable lines? The The Laughable expensive de-aging which made everyone look like refugees from the Hollywood Wax Museum . The editing of this pretentious overblown abomination that put people to sleep . The only really deserved nomination went to Joe Pesci . All the great moments lost in rain like the slow motion wedding scene , the fish in the back of the car scene, DeNiro and Pacino in their pajamas . Hopefully on Oscar night this monstrosity will win absolutely nothing . I also found it hilarious that DeNiro The Irishman wasn’t even nominated and deservedly so .
There is only one nominee who does not exactly thanks the Academy for the nomination (no “thank” or “grateful” in sight) and at the same time takes the opportunity to shoot a political speech. It comes from my country.
As Frank Sinatra said in 1977 about Vanessa Redgrave, “a simple ‘thank you’ would have sufficed”.
Corrected! Thanks for pointing that out.
I’d love to know Mayes C. Rubio’s reaction for Jojo but the co-writer of Stand Up’s reaction is repeated instead. Otherwise great to read these as always
Well, thank god the Obamas got in. Probably the ONLY black people to get nominated….oh yeh, Cynthia was nom’d and I wish her luck, but you know it’s the #oscarsowhite and #Oscarssomen.
Disappointed that Jlo didn’t get nom’d. NOTHING ABSOLUTELY nothing for the Farewell….GEEZ! and I guess no one saw Knives Out (screenplay only). Everything is so damn serious! I’m done.
It’s time for the Left out (women, blacks, Latinos, asians) to form their own combined Oscars awards. FVK the Oscars!
I really want to know J.Lo’s reaction!
