And Hamlet, being a British film, was almost certainly ineligible for the WGA nomination!
Same for me. I also thought it was a well-directed movie, even though I didn’t like it that much. It’s in 6th for me in directing so far, but of course with SO much stuff left to see… And I, too, thought the screenplay was not very good. (Sorry, I’m only now finding time to catch up to old comments!… Been shockingly busy.)
What was supposedly so “not good” about Tarantino’s speech apart from his usual self absorption about the script.
Doth my eyes deceive me? Might we be on cusp of awards season history? For if JOKER wins just one of 3 major awards of pic director and screenplay then it be first comic-adaptation to do so and it looking ever closer to reality thanx to power and most talked about film of year and quite possibly of the decade.
BUT the academy who love take thrir lead from BAFTA more than globes in last decade sent powerful message as to film that should at least be amongst most nominated to their awards colleagues over the river…JOKER 10 NOMS.
If I not mistaken NONE of other contenders are double digits . Furthermorr to nail directing , acting, script AND picture noms…that it seems leading way in score and acting already this awards season is surely significant. With actors still dominant force in academy JOKER is a force also worth noting in academy both British and sure Oscars original score Oscar gone to best picture winner more often than not in latter part of this decade past.
But I admit even if JOKER doesn’t win best pic at Oscars or baftas so long as it wins one of big 3 …it rewrite game for increased chances in future of other high quality critically acclaimed comic book a adaptations compete for Oscar…
It a blow for Irishman not get double figure nominations and fall into direct competition with 1917 ( tell ya now at very least I better be wowed) and once upon a time in Hollywood 2 other films ( we c on 1917) worthy winning best picture frankly only 2 of bunch worthy with JOKER or instead of JOKER winning best picture .
But I question as impressive and authentic as ouatih is whether it film help awards season evolve into future or more now back to nostalgia of days past. I don’t think it best serves awards season evolution give it best picture ..and though 1917 war film hardly won best picture in 2 decades as film genre there always be other WWI and II epics. Possibly could be better there HAVE been Oscar fuked up embracing for BEST pic in past.
With no Ford vs. FERRARI man of only that be contender it blow to it best pic chances I feel for entire team greatly in their awards campaign that film deserved really awards season deserved be 2 way dual of two titans this year in JOKER vs.Ford vs. Ferrari perhaps there hope story bit too American perhaps given bout Ford? But fusion of brit central character and American entrepreneur honestly ? I think it damn disappointing on part of BAFTA it been snubbed one of worst snubs in a decade be honest I don’t know if that happen at Oscars.
Parasite by it name sake just filling up space…honestly I can think of handful other worthy film’s replace that crud. By it name sake film is behaving like a ‘ parasite ‘ frankly again it NOT showing near my cinema at all..No release date I sick to death as many are of award a season new found romanticism with far too much domination In last decade of foreign directors producers not racist but ignoring u own local talent it stupid it foolish it stubbornness in extreme…my issue is far too much leniency to favour foreign filmmakers gone too far other way from decades prior far too many wins for foreigners snubbing likes of some truly high profile filmmakers one on particular…Christopher Nolan. No I don’t see parasite as a big threat pple making out yo be. U need open u film’s on reasonable amount of screen I pissed off as no. Are of excuses to overlook American – British talent at both BAFTA and Oscars…and above all embracing them only marginalized silent majority of film goers and Oscar viewers .
Enough of del Toro, Pedro almodovar, for instance how bout more Nolan in future, blomkamp, Spielberg ought return in the at picture race as he seldom does unforgettable masterwork since schindlers list , even for paddy Jenkins be looked glad Kathryn bigelow again in future…I think far more priority bring these filmmakers into fold awards season rather than sideliningg their glass ceiling shattering talents.
So it up to JOKER save the day I hope but not expecting it win best picture dare I risk saying before I say it I rather marginally OUTIH win over 1917 cos it takes guts to do original picture Tarantino has in spades esp since inglorious basterds I really rate him in my top 10 filmmakers I most admire …and I just out on 1917.
What compelling scenario with JOKER amongst top3 most nominated in in all key categories again not bad for film critics mistakenly dismissed get last laugh indeed for joker perhaps?
I’m with you on Sandler. I’ve never liked him in a single thing before this, but he would easily be on my own personal Best Actor list this year.
