After Monday’s nominations for the 2021 Oscar season, Awards Daily’s Oscar Squad took a look at the field and determined what they thought would win at this point in the race. Granted, as I’m sure you’ve heard, it’s a weird year with our traditional sign posts not in place. Plus, the stats are kind of out the window as there isn’t a film that has everything. Nomadland missed SAG, which admittedly was expected given its smaller cast of mostly non-actors. Promising Young Woman missed there too. The Trial of the Chicago 7 missed that director’s nomination. Minari doesn’t have editing. The list goes on…
Given that, the race has a little more unpredictability this year than previous years. Or not. Maybe it’s truly going to be Chloe Zhao’s night, and Nomadland sweeps.
But until then, the Oscar Squad offers their predictions. Look for us to post again next week after the WGA and PGA guilds announce their winners.
Until then, happy Oscar watching!
