Yes, folks. This is your chance to depart from the usual and go for broke when you don’t want to wreck your predictions. You get up to three. Here are mine:
The Father wins Screenplay, Actor, Picture
Judas and the Black Messiah wins Screenplay
Glenn Close wins Supporting, Hillbilly Elegy wins Hair and Makeup
Your turn, Oscarwatchers.
All sure things get upset – Nomadland(by anything that isn’t Trial), Zhao (by Fennell), Boseman (by Riz or Hopkins or both in a tie a ha ha ha ha), Kaluuya (by Raci), Youn (by Bakalova), Soul (by Wolfwalkers)
Anthony Hopkins wins Best Actor.
Olivia Colman wins Best Supporting Actress.
The Father wins Screenplay and Editing.
All deserving imo.
Promising Young Woman wins Picture and Actress
The Father wins Adapted Screenplay and Actor
Collective wins Documentary
Tie in Best Actress—Davis and Mulligan
The Father wins screenplay and actor.
Collective wins Documentary. (hat tip to Romania)
Cinematography-Sean Bobbitt
Sup. Actress-Amanda Seyfried
International feature-The man who sold his skin
Carey -Actress
Close-Sup Actress
Picture-PYW
Quo Vadis, Aida wins international.
Burrow wins short film animated.
Sound of Metal wins picture, actor, supporting actor, editing and sound.
1. Glenn Close says this line on her winning speech “Really? For this role? You really don’t like me, don’t you?”
2. A tie in a main category
3. One of the winning shorts gets an standing ovation.
Steven Yeun added as a presenter for Sunday, per Deadline.
NGNG
1. Nomad misses the sweep in Editing but still takes home five. (Twitter blows up when it realizes that McDormand’s producing and acting Oscars gives her more career Oscars than Streep.)
2. Hopkins loses Actor, but Colman wins Supporting Actress (The Oscar Producers anticipating this have her famous “this won’t happen again” soundbite from her previous speech cued up and play it on a screen behind her)
3. Not only does Hopkins lose Actor, but so does Boseman. (Winning Actor Riz Ahmed freezes up on stage for nearly a minute realizing how controversial his win is, and then stumbles through an awkward tribute to Boseman)
ngng:
Live action short film: two distant strangers
Costume design: Emma
Actor: Anthony Hopkins
Documentary short subject: do not split
Editing; Nomadland
I think Hopkins will win.
REGULAR NGNG:
Minari for Best Picture
Riz Ahmed for Best Actor
Collective wins BOTH Best Documentary and Best International Film
CHAOS NGNG:
All the acting awards go to white actors
China sabotages the telecast due to the inclusion of Do Not Split in Best Doc Short
Anti-vaxxer protest crashes Union Station
at this point is a NGNG, but I think we’re about to have this one, right. Crossed fingers.
Judas wins BP
Vanessa Kirby
Amanda Seyfried
Husavik for song

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom wins Best Actress, but not Best Actor
The Father wins for Film Editing
Judas and the Black Messiah wins for Cinematography
Borat wins its 2 nominations (Bakalova wouldn’t be a NGNG) – Edit: at my surprise, Peter Travers is predicting Borat to take Adapted.
Husavik for Song
Collective in International
MANK wins Supporting Actress
PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN wins Editing
LOVE AND MONSTERS wins Visual Effects
