Ryan Gosling hosted one of the funniest Saturday Night Llives in a while and not a moment too soon. As Israel and Iran were on the brink of war, amid a brutal election season, Saturday Night Live offered some relief. I didn’t watch the show. I never do. Thankfully, Youtube has all of the best skits.
“Here we are again, back in 2023!” Brilliant.
And that they send up Taylor Swift’s showstopper, All too Well, which burned up audiences all over the world, makes it quite the time capsule.
Every so often, SNL hits it out of the park – when they remember what is funny (universal subjects) and what isn’t (Trump Derangement Syndrome). Here are some other highlights, including a nod back to Gosling’s viral clip with Kate McKinnon:
And here is the original, from six years ago, now with 19 million views on Youtube:
More from last night’s episode:
Beavis and Butthead
Sending up Erin Brockovich:
I didn’t watch the whole thing, so I don’t know whether they brought back Gosling’s hilarious Woke Jeans ad (I would bet not, though, considering the climate of fear and all, but if they did, let me know).
From six years ago:
I’m still at work. Don’t start without me!
Yes, we can talk forever about the horrible stuff Trump does and would do.
And Trump infamously once called for NBC to have its license revoked because SNL kept making fun of him.
OK, I believe in Cancel Culture, but Sasha’s lost her marbles if she thinks there’s a such thing as Trump Derangement Syndrome. He’s specifically outlined threats, he’s doxxing people, he’s far more dangerous than 2016 or 2020. I’m not even going into it. I’ve loved Sasha for calling out wokeness, but her twitter feed is indistinguishable for a MAGA person lately
It’s funny. I said below they rarely make sequels to the commercials. I was going to write something like “If they are going to make one of any Gosling commercial it would be the Papyrus one.” You see, the first one is a classic. Hilarious and shows how excellent an actor he really is.
Turns out I was right. They did make one, although it’s not nearly as good as the first.

well, the problem was that it was all good-natured which means it had no bite.
But then Che’s jokes over the years were a running gag that was more or less based on the truth. And I am guessing will return to the truth. There will have to be a major effort to get the WNBA to grow substantially.
Sadly, she’s going to Indiana. Maybe that will work for women. But a major city that attracts tourists would be ideal.
SNL has put their entire show on their monetized YouTube channel for years. 14 million subscribers is a lot of eyeballs. The Beavis and Butthead sketch already has 3 million views in two days. Between that and the not so subtle product placement sketches, Lorne has been very clever in keeping the revenue stream going.
The Caitlin Clark cameo was fun for calling out Michael Che’s slams on women sports.
very rarely do they bring back ad spoofs.
There wasn’t a weak live skit in the bunch. Even with Gosling laughing in every single one.
Will The Fall Guy be Gosling’s biggest film after Barbie? I think so.
