Do you think you have what it takes to stare down against Jane Lynch? Every week, she sits behind her spinning dais and asks trivia questions to America’s most confident contestants. And, one by one, she tells each of those six iconic words: ‘You are the weakest link. Goodbye.’ In NBC’s reboot of the iconic game show, Weakest Link, Lynch steps into the mighty shoes of Anne Robinson, and she makes the gig her very own.
Listening to the Emmy winner ask an unsuspecting, but hopeful, contestant random trivia can be a bit nerve-wracking. When you’re on the show, you don’t have the luxury of reading it on a screen, so you are depending on Lynch’s delivery to hear the question. It’s something that Lynch admits to feeling pressure about. She doesn’t want to be the reason the game slows or you become the one the team boots out next. Lynch is there to give you the boot, but she doesn’t want to be the reason that you get booted. Instead of trying to replicate what the legendary Anne Robinson did on stage, Lynch relies on her charisma in her back-and-forth with the contestants between rounds, but then she gets down to business when the clock starts ticking. I personally love when she says, ‘The voting…is complete…’
After we discuss what advice she would give a prospective contestant, we get down to real business. Weakest Link has hosted drag queens, members of America’s armed forces, and even Santa Claus himself. Lynch does have some ideas on what group of people she would like to see featured next, and we discuss which of her beloved characters would do best facing off against…herself…
Weakest Link airs on Tuesdays on NBC and appears on Peacock the following day.
