Update: The trailer has been taken down because it included fake quotes intended to ridicule four legendary film critics. Lionsgate has issued this statement: “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”
This is so great. The Megalopolis trailer shows how critics got it so wrong so many times. I dig it.
I can’t wait to see this. The best way to interpret it, I think, is to see it through the lens of the expiring Boomer age. Their influence, what they’re leaving behind. I think that it will be a great reflection of “The Fourth Turning” hypothesis. The only part I’m not looking for is the low hanging fruit of the red MAGA hats. To me, when I see that, I think it’s a flattened read of modern history. Minds who can surpass that are the ones that I admire. If you can’t, you’re stuck in the muck of blind partisanship and therefore, can’t really assess this moment accurately (Civil War, The Apprentice…), but I will keep an open mind. Excited.
