The Television Critics Association members have spoken, and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and FX’s Atlanta win multiple 2017 TCA Awards.
While the Television Academy gears up to vote next Monday, the Television Critics Association had their say this weekend. The 2017 TCA Awards recognized multiple high-profile Emmy® contenders with Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and FX’s Atlanta winning two awards each. The TCAs exist as the only major awards given before the Emmy voting window. While the influence remains mixed, it certainly never hurts to win awards headed into the final Emmy round.
The Handmaid’s Tale received mentions for drama achievement and Program of the Year. Atlanta‘s awards came comedy achievement and Individual Achievement in Comedy for Donald Glover.
Also notable, critic darling Carrie Coon became the first performer to win for two shows in the same year. She received the Individual Achievement in Drama award for HBO’s The Leftovers and FX’s Fargo. She received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Fargo. The Leftovers, a cult and critical favorite, only received one nomination for Ann Dowd’s guest performance.
HBO’s Big Little Lies received the movie/miniseries award.
