Events: Quincy Jones and Colleen Camp Celebrate Mudbound

Music Producer Quincy Jones and Colleen Camp hosted a special evening in Hollywood celebrating the new film Mudbound. A reception attended by cast and crew followed a screening of the new film from director Dee Rees. The film illustrates the lives of white and black families in rural Mississippi as they confront the brutal realities of prejudice, farming, and friendship in a divided post World War II era.

Rees told me the film had been shot in 28 days moving from Hungary to New Orleans to capture the muddy landscape of the Mississipi Delta. Jason Mitchell who plays Ronsel Jackson in the film said of his character’s storyline said, “The film is beautiful because it allows us to sit on both sides.” The film’s story of racism is just as important and relevant today. “I think people are ready to talk about it.” He said.

Mitchell, Mary J. Blige who is barely unrecognizable in her brilliant performance as Florence Jackson, and Rob Morgan who plays Hap Jackson were in attendance. Morgan who had flown in from New York said, “The film was very important given everything that was happening in the country,” and its importance had increased since the film made its debut at Sundance in January.

Producer Kim Roth added that the film which streams on Netflix on November 17, will also be screened in select cinemas across the US. (See Below):
