Designer Keith Madden On Costuming ‘Patrick Melrose’

If you’re not watching Showtime’s Patrick Melrose, then you’re absolutely missing one of the very best television events of the year. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, the limited series covers the life of the title character as he struggles to cope with an exceedingly traumatic childhood. Bouncing through multiple eras, Patrick Melrose features beautifully subtle costume work by designer Keith Madden. Here, in an exclusive to Awards Daily TV, Madden discusses his choices and the eras he reflects through costuming. Particularly fascinating is the exploration of Patrick’s coat which serves both practical (re: hides drugs) and metaphorical (re: his suit of armor) uses.
