I’m so glad they chose to bring back the words of the man whose legacy threads throughout First Man and much of the space program that came after it. JFK never lived to see Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the surface of the powdery soft moon – but he is the force that inspired it. You can’t watch First Man and not think about Kennedy, who he was to this country, the legacy he left behind. It is all the more powerful when pinned up next to the current administration. What a come down, huh? Trump can only inspire hatred. He does not give us hope. Kennedy gave us hope. These astronauts did what seemed impossible. There have been so many good movies about the Apollo missions, most notably Apollo 13, about the that never got there. First Man, though, is about breaking the seal. There can only ever be one time. In the capable hands of Damien Chazelle, we get to go there too. What a movie.
