After scaring the daylights deadlights out of Cinemacon earlier this year, WB has finally released the first trailer for “It: Chapter Two” – the concluding chapter to Andy Muschietti’s 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. Picking up 27 years after the Losers’ Club defeated Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the sewers, the adult Losers return to their hometown of Derry, Maine for a final showdown with the interdimensional, shapeshifting demon once they learn that he’s returned and is killing again.
This trailer begins with adult Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain, whom I had pegged for this role ever since I saw her for the first time in “Jolene” nearly a decade ago) revisiting her childhood home, now owned by an elderly lady named Mrs. Kersh. Although initially friendly and welcoming, Mrs. Kersh quickly begins to unnerve Beverly, then ultimately drops all pretense and attacks her when she attempts to leave. Later on, we see the Losers reunite, balloons galore, and an appearance Pennywise himself.
Chastain is joined by James McAvoy and Bill Hader, who portray the older versions of Bill Denborough and Richie Tozier, respectively. James Ransome, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, and Andy Bean round out the adult Losers, while Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jaden Lieberher, Jack Dylan Grazer, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Wyatt Oleaf reprise their roles as the young Losers. Finally, Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise.
“It: Chapter Two” arrives in theaters on September 6.
