Emmy Awards to Go Hostless This Year

Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier made the announcement at this year’s TCA.

If you enjoyed the hostless Academy Awards this past year, get ready for an Emmy Awards with no cheesy opening number! Charlie Collier made it clear that they admired this year’s Oscar telecast and how it moved swiftly. After an Oscar season plagued with problems, the show went off without a hitch–something that Collier clearly noticed:

“It’s our job to assess how to elevate the program … and what’s interesting about this year is how many amazing shows we’re saying goodbye to: Game of Thrones, Empire, Veep, Big Bang Theory — this is new to me, I’ve never worked on the Emmys before. You have to look at trade-offs; if you have a host and opening number, that’s 15 to 20 minutes you don’t have to salute the shows. Our production team has had to balance those trade-offs. I think it will give us more time to honor those shows.”

The last time we didn’t have a host guiding the ship was in 2003 also on the FOX network coincidentally. Last year, Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted the awards on NBC, and this already feels like a step up.
