Kris Tapley points us to Rope of Silicon featuring Warner Bros. preview kit for their Fall/Holiday lineup. Some lament that Gran Torino is the only title lacking photos, with nothing more than this (months old?) synopsis:
Clint Eastwood stars in the drama “Gran Torino,” marking his first film role since his Oscar-winning “Million Dollar Baby.” Eastwood also directs the film in which he plays Walt Kowalski, an iron-willed veteran living in a changing world, who is forced by his immigrant neighbors to confront his own long-held prejudices.
Is this a bad time to bring up Nikki Finke’s “scoop” from last summer?
EW: There was talk of Clint playing the Tommy Lee Jones part. Is that true?
Paul Haggis: Well, that was my idea, but it was never his. (Laughs.) [Eastwood] told me from the beginning he was never gonna act in anything else. He said, “Well, Paul, I was in retirement, I came out of it to do Million Dollar Baby. I don’t think I can go out better, do you?” I went, “Oh, damn, how can I argue with that?”
EW: I didn’t realize he’d retired from acting.
PH: Yeah!
I think this can mean only one thing. In retrospect, even Clint Eastwood agrees that M$B isn’t all it was cracked up to be. Personally, I can wait for the photos of Clint standing all knotted up in his suburban driveway. The hot shots are from Appaloosa, after the cut.
