There are a lot of excellent performances in The Offer.

In fact, the series boasts one of the better ensemble casts of the Emmy season. Each actor dives into their role as if The Godfather were their own deeply personal film. Credit director Dexter Fletcher for allowing ample research and rehearsal time for the cast and for knowing how important it would be to get these iconic characters exactly right.

But Matthew Goode’s Robert Evans exists in an entirely different class completely.

Goode’s performance is a revelation. It’s breathtaking. It’s multi-layered and multi-faceted and all of the possible critical hosannahs you could possibly throw at an actor. His turn as the legendary film producer instantly becomes one of those moments where the marriage between an actor and a role wildly succeeds. You’ve never seen Goode quite like this. It’s his career-best performance.

Here, in an interview with Awards Daily, Goode sits down to discuss how exactly he captured Evans so perfectly. He talks about the moment in the limited series that was the most joyful to film. He also talks about his introduction to The Godfather and how it influenced him as an actor.
