Update: As Tom O’Neil says in the comments, yes, there was a test screening of Doubt so the post stands. I thought it seemed real simply because what plant would be complaining about the AC going out?
Previously: AD reader Charlie passed on this tidbit about Doubt, which has been test screened recently and commented upon on a message board:
Lets just get this out of the way now..Meryl is stunning. You literally can’t take your eyes off of her. She doesn’t have an Irish accent instead she has a Bronx accent. And of course [it’s] spot on. Philip Seymour Hoffman was fine. But Meryl acts circles around him. Amy Adams was fantastic. The story remains intact, and all in all it was fabulous(although the A/C was busted so it was hot as hell, but the movie was so good I hardly noticed) I can’t wait to see the final cut.
Going for third Oscar? Doubt, written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, seems to have Oscar written all over it. IMDb sums it up as a film “set at a Catholic school in the Bronx, it centers on a nun who grows suspicious when a priest begins taking too much interest in the life of a young black student. Is she being overly protective or not protective enough? And can she work within the system to discover the truth?”

Which means La Streep is winning her third Oscar (finally) in February 2009. Don’t believe me? Then you haven’t seen Doubt. Remember how I said before Effie White was cast for Dreamgirls that whoever got the role would be up for the Oscar? Same thing here. Sister Aloysius is one of those parts. In the right hands it’s a sensational character. And we all know that Streep knows how to handle a strong character.

It must really suck to win 2 and then all of a sudden lose 10 in a row. But that’s such an impressive amount of nominations, no matter what.
I think she’ll win and I’ll be happy if she does.
If anyone deserves another Oscar it is Streep. For her to win her third Oscar pieces have to fall into place just right. Not only it has to be a stunning performance, but he movie overall has to be one of the best of the year and then there are always those overdue younger actresses (Winslet, Moore) to deal with. If you give few of Streep’s nominated roles to other atresses (like Close or Weaver) they would have won. Lets hope Streep wins it this year.
