Damages has its final episode tonight, future still unknown.
It’s a mystery as to why viewership declined for the once widely watched series. ¬†Perhaps there was too little sex and drugs. Perhaps the villain this time, a Bernie Madoff type, wasn’t evil enough. Glenn Close’s performance is one of the best given all year by any actor or actress.
It’s a shame that they might do away with the series altogether (meanwhile, shitacular shows like The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol rage on). ¬†It might not be for everyone, but it is certainly more interesting than Lost, which is enjoying great ratings despite having no plot whatsoever that means anything. ¬†Lost is one of those shows that you can’t NOT watch, but it often feels like one is simply pounding one’s head against the wall for a solid hour. ¬†Damages, on the other hand, is juicy, deranged and suspenseful.
I don’t expect television to cater to my own specific tastes — one has to follow whatever the masses like. Either which way, Damages may or may not re-appear on Direct-TV (my guess is that it won’t). ¬†It was fun while it lasted.
