This is one of the films I’m really looking forward to. Apparently it will appear as a mini-series on the Sundance channel and then a shortened version released theatrically. On the one hand, it is a bit unfathomable that Oliver Assayas and screenwriter Dan Frank could find five hours of great stuff to put on film of convicted terrorist Ramirez Sanchez, aka Carlos the Jackal. This is probably why they aren’t releasing the full five hours theatrically (IMDb has this listed as a TV project). Assayas’ last film, Summer Hours, was ignored completely on the awards circuit despite it being a critics’ darling. Therefore, something tells me that Carlos is the film that will be the talk of Cannes. But we shall see when we fly out tomorrow, volcanic ash notwithstanding.
What would be your favorite film to see at Cannes this year?
