In a good bit of internet detective work, IC’s Guy Lodge tracks down the possibility that Terrence Malick’s eagerly anticipated Tree of Life will make a bow at either the Berlin fest or Sundance. I’m still hoping it’s Cannes. The Man About Town in Cannes, the uber-fab Cedric Succivalli tweeted this:
The Tree of Life (sigh!) : EuropaCorp has “confirmed” a French release on February, 23rd, 2011. Meaning Berlinale > Cannes. Or nothing…
So then Lodge goes and figures it out from there. It’s either Berlin (where Malick took The Thin Red Line and The New World, out of competition, Lodge says), Sundance or Cannes for a more high profile launch. Of course, being that Cannes is my own personal film fest of choice, obviously it would be a great thing were it launched there. It’s also a good place for Brad Pitt to walk the red carpet with Angelina on his arm – always a good thing for all concerned.
