I wanted to hold off on forming an opinion of this trailer based on the bootleg that leaked a few days ago, because I wanted to get a cleaner sense of the cinematography by Robert Elswit, the score by Michael Giacchino, and the editing by Paul Hirsch — Oscars winners, all. To be honest, I’m pre-sold on the basis of those names alone. I still have complete confidence that Brad Bird can do no wrong, because he’s literally never done anything wrong in his entire career. So even though this trailer is edited like it’s a subliminal memory stimulation experiment, I’m still seeing incredibly rich potential here.
Take a look back at trailers for M:I -I, -II & -III after cut. Oddly enough, they’ve failed to self-destruct.
