Seems this year the complaints about the BAFTA’s outdated 2-hour delay between actual event and edited broadcast have grown louder than ever, so maybe one of these years before long the ceremony will be broadcast live. Until then, the clips after the cut could be the first and only parts of last night’s proceedings that many of us are ever likely to see.
12 Years a Slave
Alfonso Cuaron
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Cate Blanchett
Barkhad Abdi
Jennifer Lawrence
Helen Mirren
Gravity
I thought the iron joke was about Jeremy Irons because he doesn’t.
Anyway about a decade ago they used to show the BAFTAs live on BBC America. I remember I used to watch it at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. The idea that with all the streaming internet certain channels are trying to do more tape delay seems so backwards.
[To “everyone” (rather than [names and/or posts, etc.]), plus the dedication to the late PSH (RIP)]
. . . . #But for better or worse, no appreciation made publicly to Woody Allen et al at all, Ms. Blanchett?
I didn’t mean to be reading too much into it or really finding faults if any, but my intuitive reaction initially was that, “Was this embedding an edited version?”; for what it’s worth, the current situation […] around the talented director notwithstanding, there is almost no denial that — to be blunt — it is most likely that had there been no allegation brewing at the moment, Woody Allen’s name, as well as others, would have been mentioned.
Her own idea or the studios’ aside, it was to me almost too obvious a calculation, for better or worse.
Anyway, congrats to Ms. Blanchett, as well as other winners. (I’m rooting for her at Oscar. But if Amy is the one, then I’ll be happy for the latter, too.)
Christophe, Thanks for the expanded Mirren clip. I wish all the clips were HD like that. I’ll keep an eye out for better ones to replace these we already have.
Here is the full clip for Helen Mirren’s segment with a funny quip by Stephen Fry abt how HRH Prince William has never been so close to an iron in his entire life, introductory speeches by His Royal Highness and Jeremy Irons, a video retrospective of Helen Mirren’s impressive career and finally her speech:

They censored Oppenheimer’s speech. They cut the part where he talks about the role of the West. I find that somewhat disturbing.
In his speech, His Royal Higness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, called Helen Mirren “Granny”! That is worth ALL the awards she’s ever won combined!
Cate Blanchett brought tears to my eyes, as did Amy Adams’s face when she teared up when PSH was mentioned.
Where is Peter Greenaways great speech?
Abdi’s win was a surprise indeed, here Bafta clearly thought outside the box. I’m so happy for Ejiofor, too, his performance moved me to tears.
btw: Read the interesting Guardian-article “12YAS deserved better than this”.
You can tell Cuaron is distressed. He probably saw many eyes rolling.
Abdi was the biggest surprise!
