Sasha reviewed The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby at Cannes and gets quoted 3 times in the new trailer.
Synopsis: With his unique vision, writer/director Ned Benson ambitiously captures a complete picture of a relationship in the beautifully relatable portrait of love, empathy and truth that is “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” Once happily married, Conor (McAvoy) and Eleanor (Chastain) suddenly find themselves as strangers longing to understand each other in the wake of tragedy. The film explores the couple’s story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone. Screened for the first time at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Benson’s latest version of their story combines his previous two films — titled “Him” and “Her” — uniting their perspectives and taking a further look into the subjectivity of relationships.

I mean, unless you saw it at Cannes, you can’t really write it off as a bad Blue Valentine or bad as a whole. One can judge how it looks by a trailer, yes, but not that specifically. Sheesh people, give the movie a chance and see it before you judge it.

I cannot avoid comparing this interesting film to another The Weinstein Company release: Serek Cianfrance’s 2010 Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard Official Selection entry “Blue Valentine” (starring Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling).
However, Ned Benson’s film has a top-notch cast (Chastain, McAvoy, Davis, Hader, Huppert, and Hurt). I can see a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the most; Jessica Chastain for Best Actress (leading role) cannot be discounted.
For now, I have some reservations regarding its critical consensus (in the USA, at least).
André, if you’re Brazilian, like me, all you can hope is a torrent version of Blu-ray.

Well holy shit, here’s a first: a trailer that drives me to tears.
Looks absolutely beautiful, but it appears to hit too close to home for me.

I am not sure if this trailer is meant to represent the essence of the overall feel of the film despite a little amount of time. But somehow I just didn’t feel the vibes of it (the clip). (The clip — not the film [naturally, I have yet to see it] — simply felt a bit too hypnotically sluggish [drowsy] to me.[edited by myself])
That said, I’ll check it out for Jessica Chastain’s performance. [I’ve never seen her fail in ‘drama’ so far; so, I basically trust her]
And, having read the comments so far, thanks to the trailer and synopsis, I could see why, at least on surface, it could possibly be related to Blue Valentine to #some readers (though, in my case, I #didn’t ##feel its similitude entirely; so, I need to experience it myself to determine whether or not it is really in the same vein as Blue Valentine).
Wondering if we (in my case: in Asia Pacific) are going to be able to see all 3 segments — Him, Her and Them . . . . [Please, with sugar on top, Mr. Weinstein . . . . xD]
