I don’t think it’s an omission as much as it is the fact that you are putting her in the wrong category. I just seen Boyhood tonight (mainly because I saw your predictions about the movie on the page) and I have to think that Patricia Arquette is the lead. Now I don’t think she was the best in the movie (I actually liked Hawke much more as the dad) but I would be shocked if she would get a nomination as a supporting role instead of the lead, if she does in fact get a nomination at all. As of right this second without really seeing any of the other films, I would say Arquette and Jolie (for Maleficent) should be the top two contenders.

Are you aware that there are surprise nominees every single year? Behn Zeitlin, J.C. Chandor, Courtney Hunt, Marcia Gay Harden, Tommy Lee Jones (In the Valley of Elah), Javier Bardem (Biutiful), Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jonah Hill (for Wolf of Wall Street, though he was predicted he had no precursors), Demien Bichir, Rooney Mara. I mean come on, they all got in and were all extremely dark horses in the race with almost no precursors. A few of them had sole GG or a BAFTA nomination. And they are the true praiseworthy ones. Ryan’s right, get your head out of your ass. Let’s not call the race in July before everything is seen. That sounds like the Emmys just check check checkin off the same names year after year. yes, and people were equally convinced Blanchett was not getting an Oscar nomination same time last year.
People might protest it but Moore would have a better chance of getting a supporting nomination as apposed to lead. Moore has two key factors in getting the oscar nom this year I believe. First is the critics awards and if she wins some high profile ones her name will be more talked about. Second is The Hunger Games Mockingjay and her character Alma Coin should be one of the best parts of the film and when the film does well her name once again will be buzzed and I feel supporting is best for Moore. My contenders for Best Actress which sadly looks quite weak are Adams, Chastain (Eleanor Rigby), Pike, Streep and Witherspoon. I just hope someone from the festival circuit gets buzz because really this category looks less competitive then others
