In a survey of roughly 1,000 readers, Reese Witherspoon’s Wild topped the list of most highly anticipated of the Toronto lineup. Fandango readers give a good indication of what movies are likely to make the most money, and which stars their readers prefer (usually big stars).

I didn’t realize that Wild was even anticipated.
People forget what a popular actress Witherspoon is. Plus I saw the trailer for her other film (The Blind Side with African refugees) and she looks winning in that.
Bryce, I go to AD for thoughtful discussions with like-minded folk and I go to In Contention for a lot of the interviews and technical breakdown of films. I really don’t post much over there. I still like Kris and the others that contribute over there. Guy was a great voice over there and the site still won’t lose much readership. But I get the best of both worlds between here and there.
I agree with all y’all. At this rate she’ll surpass Nicole Kidman, any second, as the working actress with the most impressive filmography — a truly tall order when you consider such timeless masterpieces as EYES WIDE SHUT, BIRTH, and DOGVILLE.
OT: Just wanted to say that since Guy Lodge left, ‘In Contention’ has really gone down the toilet, hasn’t it? That person they have covering Venice is, I’m certain, working for food. AD is officially the last bastion/safe haven for intelligent Oscar-watchers.
On the plus side, it enormously simplifies things. I have unkind adjectives for all the other “gurus”, from “highly boring” to “highly insufferable”, but let’s not assign those.

Q Mark, I’ll leave that up for you to decide. To me, anything involving films that could go on to get nominated for Oscars is relevant to the Oscar race, and I’ll add, to Awards Daily. I think they do a great job in finding a relevant topic for everyday of the year. I’d go nuts trying to do that. More power to Sasha and Ryan.
As for Wild, I’m glad it is getting attention. Wild looks terrific, and I hope Reese is in contention early next year.
Is this poll really relevant to an Oscar race? The second pick is a generic Denzel action movie, so as noted, this is clearly just based around which films have the biggest stars, not necessarily which films have the most TIFF buzz.
Not to denigrate Equalizer, since I love generic Denzel action movies and will totally be seeing that on its opening weekend.

Chastain is the closest thing to the next Meryl we’ll ever get. Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are wonderful funny celebrities and sure as hell can act, but when I see people calling them the next Meryl it makes me sick. Chastain has shown the most range out of working actresses today, including recent Meryl. The woman will be in Miss Julie and Interstellar for crying out loud.
Streep set the bar many, many years ago in Sophie’s Choice.

All bars have already been set by Oscar-winning screen icon Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road, The Holiday) but I would be curious to see what sort of work Chastain provides in collaboration with Scott.
For the TIFF lineup, this looks like a bunch of great feature films.
