I just saw Nightcrawler last night. What a rush! Jake Gyllenhaal was a force of nature and that final crash scene…wow.
No mention of Dan Gilroy in your Director’s Frontrunners list? Do you not think this is a possibility, even if it garners a BP nom?
Nightcrawler popping up all over this awards season has been such a breath of fresh air.
The Knight of Cups trailer is simply outstanding and out of this world! Cate Blanchett is gonna have a truly strong year with Knight of Cups, Cinderella, Carol and Truth
@Roberto From Italy
You have no idea how much I waited for this film. Thanks for letting us know. This already is the best film of 2015 for me 😀
And Edward Norton.
Antoinette,
I’d add Joaquin Phoenix to that list of greatest actors of our generation.
Thanks Roberto. That was gorgeous. Looks like Christian Bale might be solidifying himself as the best actor of his generation. I’ve always thought it was between him and Leo. But that looks like a winning move.
Re; Detroit’s nominations.
Nothing warms the cockles of my heart like seeing Jake Gyllenhaal above Tom Hardy. 😀
Nightcrawler is making a strong case for a BP nomination.
PS: We have a trailer for Knight of Cups!!
If Jake is not nominated, at this point, I think it can be considered a snub. He’s shown up consistently during the season so far.
Found Detroit’s announcement as well. http://detroitfilmcritics.com/the-2014-detroit-film-critics-society-awards/
Thanks for the mention, Ryan.
I too liked James Newton Howard’s work on Nightcrawler – among his very finest, I believe. Wasn’t sure it’d be nominated for the Oscar since it’s intermingled with a lot of pre-existing music, but then the music branch can waive their own regulations to an extent when they’re dealing with composers they like. They did it twice in a row for Gustavo Santaolalla, and he won both times. Nightcrawler is eligible for Original Score at the Oscars this year – if Newton Howard can get in for Dan Gilroy’s brother Tony’s Michael Clayton (a weaker score), he can easily get in for Nightcrawler.
Awesome. Huge fan of “Nightcrawler,” and really hope James Newton Howard gets an Oscar nomination as well for his extremely effective score.
Nightcrawler is unbelievably great. This is a great winners list! And Gyllenhaal really deserves to win Best Actor this year at The Oscars (even a nomination seems unlikely but still it’s great to see he receives so much praise). Dude is fuckin’ amazing. I wish he had won Best Supporting Actor last year with Prisoners. And Enemy, he’s just brilliant there. The praise for Marion Cotillard continues by critics in a rythm that makes it all the most unlikely for her to lose that Oscar nomination. It will be flat-out criminal if the AMPAS decide to snub her again. She gives a performance for the ages in Two Days, One Night. The magical trio of actresses in leading roles this year is her, Julianne Moore and Rosamund Pike. The rest are too far behind for me.
