How are AwardsDaily readers doing so far for their predictions for our contest? It’s pretty much going as expected all the way down the line:
Birdman
Michael Keaton, Birdman
Julianne Moore, Still Alice
Patricia Arquette, Boyhood
JK Simmons, Whiplash
Here are the charts…
where can i watch it online ? Im from Argentina, and on tv they show some crappy miss universe contest !!!
Oops. Forgot to switch from Budapest to Birdman. Shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. Searchlight rigged the game in Birdmans favor since that got DVD screener and Budapest only got digital.
SAG doesn’t usually hold any surprises. Whatever you predict as a consensus, I’ll go for it.
“Hey, do any of you guys know about a functioning live stream link of the SAG Awards? Preferably one that would work in Europe. Thanks in advance.”
I’ll be using this one, it seems: http://www.time4tv.com/2011/06/tnt.php And you can try this one as well, though it’s not working right now, it seems (it might when the show starts): http://www.time4tv.com/2011/10/tbs.php
You might need to click on Stream 2 or Stream 3. Anybody have any tips on which channel would be preferable (if any): TBS or TNT?
“An ACE Eddie would help, but even that could go to the Editor of Birdman, whom AMPAS failed to nominate.”
That would probably be very, very telling…
“Any ensemble win that isn’t Birdman would bring Boyhood back to its BP lock”
Well, not lock (the PGA is such a strong precursor, and has the preferential thing going for it), but favorite – yes, possibly, but only if it wins the DGA. Though, if The Imitation Game wins SAG… I don’t know…
***
What I would vote for if I had a ballot:
Birdman
Redmayne (barely beats out Gyllenhaal; Keaton is close too, but not as close as JG)
Pike
Simmons (although I hate having to not give it to Norton or Hawke)
Stone (even though I’ll admit Arquette clearly deserves it, I can’t not vote for Emma…)
Stunt Ensemble: I’ve only seen The Hobbit so far. I guess it wouldn’t be a bad winner.
TV – I’ve just not seen anywhere near enough of the nominated shows.
If Birdman should win anywhere it’s best SAG ensemble. But because it’s already won PGA and I’m afraid of it gaining momentum, I hope it goes to GBH or Boyhood.
My SAG Ballot:
Ensemble: BOYHOOD
Actor: Jake Gyllenhaal
Actress: Rosamund Pike
S. Actor: JK Simmons
S. Actress: Patricia Arquette
Stunt Ensemble: GET ON UP
TV Drama Ensemble: BOARDWALK EMPIRE
TV Comedy Ensemble: ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
TV Drama Actor: Matthew McConaughey
TV Drama Actress: Tatiana Maslany
TV Comedy Actor: Louis CK
TV Comedy Actress: Julia Louis-Dreyfuss
TV Miniseries Actor: Billy Bob Thornton
TV Miniseries Actress: Frances McDormand
TV Stunt Ensemble: GAME OF THRONES
Even if Birdman takes the lead for Best Picture, I don’t think Emma Stone can beat Patricia Arquette or that Ed Norton can beat JK Simmons. It will, however, shut out Redmayne’s chance of winning Best Actor.
“Any ensemble win that isn’t Birdman would bring Boyhood back to its BP lock”
Actually, I’d say that a Boyhood ensemble win (and not just ‘anyone but Birdman’) would bring it back to BP most likely.
Boyhood shouldn’t even be nominated for best ensemble. Two only real actors doing nothing extraordinary. Not their fault, the script is so weak, but that’s the way it is. The only worthy best ensemble winners are The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman.
Birdman has to win for Ensemble, because in the movie each character had great lines and contributed for the dynamic of Birdman! Also, i’m rooting for Keaton, Simmons and Arquette but i’m crossing the fingers for a miraculous win of Pike against Moore…difficult but you never know!
Usually you still see more fragmentation in these polls. I think we’re in for a fairly predictable evening, though those TV categories are always full of surprises.
Chris – If I had a SAG vote too, I would have voted Boyhood also. Those actors in that small ensemble committed to coming back 12 years in a row. Contracts for actors couldn’t go beyond 7 years, so even that was out the window. They got lots of creative input in return and are receiving now all the attention they deserve for their dedication. I would hope other actors could appreciate that.
I should clarify that I actually cast a vote for the SAG Awards, not just that I voted Boyhood here on AD.
I personally voted BOYHOOD for Best Ensemble, but I was very close to giving it to GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. BIRDMAN is a well acted movie, but I prefer the other 2 ensembles.
Any ensemble win that isn’t Birdman would bring Boyhood back to its BP lock, so I guess this is the make it or break it for Inarritu’s movie.
BIRDMAN will win tonight, but Linklater will win the dga . BOYHOOD WILL WIN BP AND BD I hope,
I would love to see Grand Budapest take this just to keep things extra confusing and exciting!
Boyhood will need DGA to keep any hope alive. An ACE Eddie would help, but even that could go to the Editor of Birdman, whom AMPAS failed to nominate. The race is interesting, but this is one year I didn’t really want it to be. Boyhood is the best film of the year.
Tonight is another big score for Birdman, and I’ve always thought it would be (well before last night). The Grand Budapest Hotel, with the sheer size of its Ensemble–17 well-known names–could play spoiler tonight and stop the Birdman train from rolling along. We’ll see.
Hey, do any of you guys know about a functioning live stream link of the SAG Awards? Preferably one that would work in Europe. Thanks in advance.
I hope Grand Budapest or Boyhood could upset.
So, after winning the PGA, if “Birdman” wins the SAG Ensemble, shouldn’t we consider it, the frontrunner for Best Picture, at the Oscar? Specially if Iñarritu upsets Linklater at the DGA.
