I finally saw Selma the other day. And it was just ok to me. I am actually surprised that it actually got a best pic nom.
The industry’s failure with Selma remains unbelievably stupid. They had the chance to associate themselves with something glorious and deeply patriotic but they jerked off in the mirror instead. That ridiculous old white fool, Academy member/costume designer, “I don’t pay attention to nuthin’ or nobody… I vote for whut I like!. I’m in the biz, and that’s all that matters.”
It isn’t a matter of them honoring this particular film, Selma…. that is beyond the Academy’s power. It is about the Academy, and the industry, lifting itself up. How is it that a conservative institution like football, pro or college, can become so diverse, but an institution made up of self-styled liberals proclaims itself helpless and blames the victims? The test of ones true ideals comes in the exercise of power, not intentions or beliefs.
