Sasha Stone has been around the Oscar scene since 1999. Almost everything on this website is her fault.
I was already sold on this movie about halfway through the trailer, and then Domhnall Gleeson showed up and I lost my mind. This looks amazing!
It has a chance to work two different ways: the most obvious is as a traditional period romance, but just here in the U.S. alone, literally millions of us (most all of us actually) have some connection to an immigrant story whether our own or perhaps our parents or grandparents.
Brooklyn is an intensely personal story of one young women who leaves everyone she knows and loves for a better life, but it could potentially connect with so many of us because of our own personal and/or family histories.
watch out for her this year. no doubt.
that novel Brooklyn has its problems as a novel. but since it’s slender, more of a novelette, it’s the perfect size and scope to be a portrait devoted to one character who interesting and quite endearing.
Saoirse Ronan eyes are going to win best actress.
I thought Mulligan was great in Llewyn Davis. Oh, well.
I do remember hearing Emory Cohen getting some great reviews for this movie out of Sundance, so perhaps this will be a star-making role for him too.
Emory Cohen could potentially nearly ruin this fine looking films for me like he did THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, and much like Jeremy Renner and Carey Mulligan nearly ruined the aforementioned THE IMMIGRANT and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS respectively; nearly.
Looks quite good. Not sure if it will be a formidable film for winning Best Pic but maybe.
If it is as good as The Immigrant, then woohoo.
Gosh, how can the Oscar not cares for James Gray?
Most websites are predicting Saoirse to get in for best actress. She really needs this push as she’s hada string of bad luck with some of her movies lately. . Not taking anything away from her talent. . But yeah I’m rooting for her
That is a lovely trailer reflective of the reviews coming out of Sundance and the few tweets recently from film writers in England who’ve had the opportunity to screen the film. Brooklyn is shaping up to be an outstanding transitional role for Saoirse, one hopefully allowing her to once again be in the mix this awards’ season.
Brooklyn appears strong enough to be considered for awards in the major categories. In addition, this film represents a showcase enabling Saoirse to display her wonderfully expressive and naturalistic acting talent.
Wow, looks like a great leading role for Saorise. High hopes for this film. Can’t wait.
