Oscar voting has now closed. We won’t know how many voters voted, but since they’ve implemented the online system, more certainly do. It’s going to be a tense night as they read the winners on Sunday.
What was your favorite thing about this year and your least favorite thing?
My favorite thing was watching the stats prevail when the only film that could have won the PGA, The Big Short, won. Or that only two directors could have won the DGA – Alejandro G. Inarritu or Adam McKay, and only one of two films could have won the SAG ensemble, Spotlight or The Big Short.
My least favorite thing was not seeing Carol get a Best Picture nomination, not seeing Ridley Scott get a Best Director nomination, and finally, the complete and total shut out of Beasts of No Nation was the worst thing.
In looking over the nominees, half of the time I look at them and think, ‘yeah, they all deserve those nominations.’ And half the time, they just seem to be there because they had good publicists doing the work for them, or they’re popular. Either way, this year is in the can. Onward and upward.
