Money Monster starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts will play at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Jodie Foster, Money Monster is about a TV show presenter (Clooney) who’s live tv show is taken hostage by Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell) after his recent financial losses. Roberts plays the show’s producer who talks Clooney’s Lee Gates through the life-threatening situation. The film takes place in real time and focuses on a single event.
Money Monster marks a return for Foster to the festival. Her 2011 film, The Beaver screened out of festival. There is no confirmation as to when the film will screen at Cannes, however, it’s likely Money Monster will screen on the second night, as the film is set to open in the U.S on May 13. Sony will release the film.
The 69th Cannes Film Festival will take place May 11-22.
